Mission

The mission of ArtsWAVE (Arts in Wawarsing and the Village of Ellenville) is to provide leadership and services that encourage the Arts for the cultural, educational and economic benefit of our community.

 

History

With a desire on the part of the Village of Ellenville government to  encourage economic development and improve quality of life, along with an influx of artists into the Town of Wawarsing area, the arts initiative was begun.

 

Previous Events 

 

2006

MARCH

• Community Brainstorming Session with Sara Pasti, Beacon Arts Community Assoc.

• 2nd Brainstorming session produces EA3 (Ellenville Area Arts Alliance) to develop signature events.

JULY

• 10x10x10 Art Invitational: Curator Judy Sigunick invited 10 artists from ten towns in the  Hudson

   Valley to exhibit in 10 empty storefronts in the Village of Ellenville.

• AWE: Art in the Windows of Ellenville exhibited local artists in business storefronts.

  Artist reception. Exhibits run 5 weeks.

• Ellenville Village Board passed the Artist Work/Live Law permitting renovation and rental of

  apartments located above the stores in Downtown Ellenville. 

AUGUST

• Blueberry Festival Art Exhibit at Hunt Memorial building. Curated by Judy Sigunick.

  Festival sponsored by Ellenville-Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce.

2007

MARCH

• Ellenville Village board creates position of Visual Arts Director, stipend $10,000.

  Judy Sigunick, Cragsmoor potter & sculpter, is appointed.

• Monthly meetings for area artists and general public.

JULY

• 10x10x10 Art Invitational: Curator Judy Sigunick. Artists reception. Exhibit runs 8 weeks.

• Uncle Floyd Comedy Show at White Wolf Restaurant. Organized by Roger Baker to raise funds for 

  EA3.

• E6 Painting: Six local artists (Judy Sigunick, Phil Sigunick, Roger Baker, Chuck Davidson, Andrew

  Reed and Charles Broderson)painting one large mural divided into 84 individual mats. Silent auction

  raises funds for EA3.

AUGUST

• Blueberry Festival Art Exhibit at Hunt Memorial building.Exhibit curated by Monica Cohen. Festival

  sponsored by Ellenville-Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce.

OCTOBER

• Use of space for an art center donated by Hal Brill. Purchase/donation of pottery equipment by Hal

  Brill. Location 12 Market St., Ellenville.

• Ellenville Farmers Market Designing Pumpkins raffle. Local artists decorating Halloween pumpkins.

  Fundraising for EA3.

NOVEMBER

• Market St. Art Center, Pottery class taught by Judy Sigunick.

DECEMBER

• Organization of an Interim Board of Directors. Meeting monthly.

• Organization name changed to ArtsWAVE- Arts in Wawarsing and the Village of Ellenville.

2008 

JANUARY

• Town of Wawarsing awards $10,000 grant to ArtsWAVE.

FEBRUARY

• Interim board development of mission statement, by-laws. 501c3 process begins.

• Open checking account, Post office box.

• Logo competion. ArtsWAVE design by Chuck Davidson.

• Market St. Art Center name changed to ArtsWAVE Center.

• ArtsWAVE Center 4-week residency - Tim Rowan (clay)

MARCH

• ArtsWAVE Calendar of Local Events - appears weekly in Shawangunk Journal.

• ArtsWAVE Center policy & guidelines, building use form and liability waiver created.

APRIL

• Artist Resource Directory begins. Application for artist listings available on Village website.

• Artist Resource Directory available at ellenvilleny.org (Village website)

MAY

• ArtsWAVE Center 4-week residency - Ada Cruz (paper making, sculptor)

JUNE

• C.U.P.S. Project - Wawarsing Council of Agencies sponsors a 4-week intro. to clay class for children. Judy Sigunick, instructor. 

JULY

• ArtsWAVE brochure designed and distributed.

• 10x10x10 Art Invitational: Curator Judy Sigunick. Artists reception.

• ARTSwe2008: Curator Dennis Warner. Over 30 local artists exhibit in business storefronts.

• Exhibits run 12 weeks. Artists reception. Exhibit programs and maps available.

• WELV radio interviews of exhibiting artists.

• Director of Visual Arts (Ellenville) position completed.

AUGUST

• Blueberry Festival Art Exhibit at Hunt Memorial building. Curated by Monica Cohen

• ArtsWAVE Center/Blueberry Festival- blueberry mural painting, weaving demonstration, C.U.P.S. &

  Berries for sale. Festival sponsored by E/W Chamber of Commerce.

 

OCTOBER

• Interim board passes By-Laws resolution. Official Board of Directors appointed. Meeting monthly.

• ArtsWAVE Center: Mural painting for Students sponsored by the Advantage After School Program.

  Monica Cohen instructor.

• Ellenville Farmers Market Designing Pumpkins raffle. Local artists decorating Halloween pumpkins.

  Fundraising for ArtsWAVE.

 

NOVEMBER

• ArtsWAVE Center signs completed. Stationary printed.

• ArtsWAVE Center closed for the winter due to heating costs. Reopen in April 2009. 

2009 

MARCH

• Dutchess County Arts Council grant awarded for Summer Exhibits: 10x10x10 and ARTSwe2009-$1990

 

APRIL

• Call for Artwork: ARTSwe2009. Enlisting storefronts.

• Summer Exhibits: PR graphic designs, program organization, ad sales. Organizing Artist Reception.

 

MAY

• EHS Student Film Festival. In discussion, film posters exhibit at ArtsWAVE Center.

 

JUNE

• 06.03-13: Shadowland Theatre rehearsal space at ArtsWAVE Center.

• Installation of Summer Exhibits: 10x10x10 and ARTSwe2009.

 

JULY

• 10x10x10 and ARTSwe2009 officially open. Runs thru October 31.

• Summer Exhibits Artist reception, Taste of Wawarsing samples from local restaurants, local wines.

  ArtsWAVE Center, Market St., Ellenville, 4pm-8pm. Music in the Square: Swing Band, 5:30 -7pm.

• Dead_Line presents Processing Place.  5 artists including Judy Sigunick, Michael Asbil, Sarah

  MacEachen, Kristopher Perry, and Susan Ross, working individually & in collaboration for one week at

  the ArtsWAVE Center. Sponsored by Hal Brill.

• UCCC Student Art Exhibit begins. Sundays through August. UCCC student Sarah MacEachen

  organizing fellow students to exhibit thru September. In conjunction with other Sunday Village

  activities: Ellenville Farmers Market, Hunt Memorial Book Sale, Shadowland Theatre matinee.

AUGUST

• Blueberry Festival Art Exhibit at Hunt Memorial building.Exhibit curated by Monica Cohen. ArtsWAVE

  Center- childrens activities, art and craft demonstrations, C.U.P.S. & Berries Sale fund raising.

  Festival sponsored by E/W Chamber of Commerce.

Shadowland Theatre rehearsal space at ArtsWAVE Center.

 

SEPTEMBER

• Wallkill River School Plein Air Paint Out in conjunction with Ellenville Farmers Market, Hunt Memorial

  Book Sale, Shadowland matinee.

• Cinema Ballyhoo. Exhibit of cinema posters, stills, lobby cards, pressbooks, vintage movie trailers

  from collection of Ray Faiola.

 

OCTOBER

• Ellenville Farmers Market Harvest Festival, Designing Pumpkins raffle. Local artists decorating

  Halloween pumpkins. Fundraising for ArtsWAVE.

• Local Indian Artifacts Exhibit, collection of Al Perry at ArtsWAVE Center.

• Aroma Thyme Artist Reception for Wallkill River School Plein Air artists. Exhibit open thru Oct. 31.

  Silent auction of paintings to raise funds for ArtsWAVE.

• ArtsWAVE Center closes for winter. Reopen April 1, 2010.

2010 

MARCH

Walkway Over the Hudson Emblems & Flags by Joyce Kalish, exhibited at Wawarsing Town Hall.
