The May Festival
The Director of Marketing is responsible for driving marketing strategy and implementation and supporting community engagement efforts across the May Festival, Cincinnati Boychoir, and Vocal Arts Ensemble. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role will play a critical role in the marketing integration of these three organizations, supporting their collective growth while fostering deeper connections with the community.
The Director will develop and implement comprehensive marketing and community engagement campaigns, to attract new audiences, retain existing audiences, and increase ticket sales. This role will be responsible for building a comprehensive organizational awareness strategy and Festival marketing campaign while integrating community engagement events into broader marketing objectives.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive marketing campaigns that align with the artistic visions of the May Festival family of choruses, including Cincinnati Boychoir and Vocal Arts Ensemble.
- Lead the creation of all marketing materials, including copy, graphics, print, and digital content, coordinating with third-party vendors and existing shared services support in communication and digital content.
- Drive public awareness, collaborating with communications and fundraising teams to ensure alignment with organizational branding and messaging.
- Contract and manage relationships with marketing outlets and place media buys.
- Design ticket packaging and pricing tiers to inform projections and drive desired audience behavior.
- Forecast annual unit and earned revenue goals based on market data and growth potential, working with leadership and the sales team to create goals.
- Responsible for budgeting marketing revenues and expenses as well as the processing of invoices.
- Monitor sales in real-time to inform and adjust marketing strategies, in collaboration with the sales team to ensure resources are allocated effectively to yield optimal conversion rates.
- Regularly report campaign progress and sales updates to the Executive Director and various stakeholders.
- Collaborate with administrative, artistic, fundraising, audience engagement, sales and content development teams to ensure seamless integration of marketing strategies.
- In collaboration with team members responsible for building community partnerships, create supportive marketing materials through the execution of community-facing events and activations.
- Provide administrative support for community engagement efforts, including event logistics.
- Maintain records of partnerships, community contacts, and event outcomes using CRM tools or shared documents.
- Communicate updates internally to ensure cross-team alignment on community engagement activities and marketing needs.

- A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in marketing, communications or a related field, preferably within the arts, nonprofit, or performing arts sector, with a proven track record of results.
- Ability to see the big picture while successfully executing detailed plans.
- Exceptional ability to craft compelling marketing copy, direct creative projects, and ensure brand consistency across various platforms and media.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills and the confidence to communicate results to various stakeholders.
- Strong command of numbers and data with the ability to draw insights to inform projections and strategies.
- Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proven effectiveness in working cross-functionally and collaboratively in complex organizational structures.
- Knowledge of classical and/or choral music preferred.
- Tessitura, Prospect 2, Adobe, and Beanworks experience a plus.
Reporting relationships: Executive Director
*The May Festival, Cincinnati Boychoir and Vocal Arts Ensemble operate under a shared services agreement with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO). This position will work collaboratively with and receive support from the CSO’s marketing, communications and sales teams.
