ABOUT THE CONTEMPORARY ARTS CENTER:
MISSION STATEMENT: Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) is a lab for understanding ourselves, others, and the world around us through the experience and creation of all contemporary art forms.

CAC BACKGROUND: CAC was founded in 1939 by three women with their eyes on the future. Today, our purpose is to champion open minds and foster an inclusive culture by
using contemporary art and mutual learning as vehicles for connecting people, cultivating creativity, and catalyzing curiosity. CAC now operates on a ~$4M annual operating budget and offers 4 – 5 significant exhibitions per year, including group and solo exhibitions originated by CAC curator(s), guest curators, and touring exhibition partners. It is the oldest non-collecting contemporary art center in the country and one of the largest, occupying an 80,000 sq. ft. building, with approximately 22,000 sq. ft. devoted to exhibition and
performance space. CAC is poised to continue its 86-year legacy of being the premier venue for contemporary art in the Greater Cincinnati region with a recently completed strategic plan that will serve as its programmatic and operational blueprints for the next 5 years.

LOCATION: CAC is located in an architectural gem in the heart of downtown Cincinnati, designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. The Lois and Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art was heralded by The New York Times as “the most important American building to be completed since the end of the cold war” and was lauded for its community- centric approach to the design process.

SALARY, BENEFITS, AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: This FT position takes place Monday – Friday with some weekend and evening hours on occasion. FT staff works Monday – Friday with the option to work off-site Mondays and Tuesdays on occasion as responsibilities allow. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Director of Gallery Education works to manage the scheduling and organization of CAC museum tours, oversees the CAC’s Docent Program, organizes the implementation and scheduling of the School Outreach Program and general school based-learning programs. Other responsibilities include working with the Interpretation Specialist to organize the development of lesson plans and educator guides, developing and managing Educator Workshops and assistance with gallery kits and games to enhance gallery learning. Work schedule includes 40 hours a week. Some weekend or evening hours required on occasion. The Assistant Director of Gallery Education performs other duties for the Education team as needed related to supporting CAC.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage all aspects of tour scheduling—including, but not limited to, scheduling, creating an updated tour calendar, working with docents to fill positions, evaluating tours and informatics. Provide tours as needed and assist in art projects for tours.
• Manage and implement the School Outreach Program, including working with local teachers and artists/studios, scheduling all transportation, employing evaluations, collecting needed data for grants.
• Creation of exhibition resources and project ideas for teachers and tours inspired by CAC gallery exhibitions and contemporary art.
• Manage and oversee the CAC Docent Program. Work with the Curator, Interpretation Specialist, and Director of Education to provide exhibition trainings. Track and oversee docent volunteer hours and scheduling, attend Docent Council meetings and work with the council and Director of Education to organize the annual Docent retreat, holiday party, and launch event.
• Work with the Education team to organize programming and tour data collection and all education informatics.
• Work collaboratively with the Education team to maintain the Creativity Center and Docent Lounge.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a museum, nonprofit, or education role is preferred.
• Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Computer and word processing proficiency (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Google Doc).
• Strong visitor service skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in art education, art history, museum education, or a related field.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends on occasion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• The person in this position needs to occasionally move about outside and inside the office and studio space to lead programs and tours with others, access art supplies, office machinery, etc.
• Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
