Compensation: The Calling Stage Manager will be paid a stipend of $2200.

Calling Stage Manager- Make Believe Job Description:

 

General Info: The Know Theatre is seeking a well-rounded, confident, creative problem solver to stage manage performances of our first production of Season 29, Make Believe by Bess Wohl. This production involves four young adult actors and four adult actors. There will be a Young Actor Coordinator onsite to accompany the young actors.

 

If chosen for this role, the Calling Stage Manager will need to complete a background check.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Week 1: Preparation Week & Designer Run
    • Prepare necessary paperwork & prompt book to successfully complete technical rehearsals and performances of the show.
    • Attend Designer Run
    • Attend Safety Training & Emergency Procedures meeting
    • Attend walkthrough of the theater & learn equipment basics
    • Attend any necessary training for the specific needs of the production (fight choreo.,etc)
    • Attend rehearsals, as specified by the Production Stage Manager
  • Weeks 2-3: Technical Rehearsals & Preview
    • Work directly with Production Stage Manager to complete technical rehearsals
    • Create House Management documents
    • Create Preshow & Postshow checklists
    • Coordinate Scene changes & scene change paperwork
    • Create Maintenance & Care Plans based on information from department heads
    • Production Stage Manager will handover show to the Calling Stage Manager during the technical rehearsal process prior to the final dress rehearsal
  • Weeks 4-5: Performances
    • Maintain the production prompt book, including cues, and production notes.
    • During performances execute lighting cues, sound cues, video/projection cues, etc using the consoles or other equipment as rehearsed during the technical rehearsals.
    • Oversee and call cues for any backstage staff, as needed
    • Ensure all performances begin and conclude on schedule by effectively communicating with house management & the Know Theatre staff.
    • Conduct pre-show and post-show checks with cast and crew.
    • Coordinate scene changes, props, set pieces, and backstage operations.
    • Communicate production updates between directors, designers, performers, and technical staff. Update production management on communications to ensure adequate flow of information.
    • Prepare and distribute performance reports.
    • Track attendance and communicate scheduling changes.
    • Oversee the care and organization of props, costumes, and backstage equipment.
  • General
    • Foster a professional, collaborative, and positive environment.
    • Maintain a clean & functional workspace.
    • Complete basic troubleshooting for any challenges and report any challenges, as needed
    • Proactively identify any safety issues affecting staff, artists, patrons, or the general public.
    • See all problems to a complete resolution or clearly pass them off.
    • Maintain professionalism as a representative of the Know Theatre of Cincinnati at all times.
    • Undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities as requested by the six core members of the Know Theatre Staff.

 

Skills:

  • Necessary Skills:
    • Experience working in a theatrical, public-facing, camp/festival, or event setting.
    • Experience as a stage manager, event manager, or other entertainment lead.
    • Lift, carry, and handle up to 25lbs. (Accommodations are available.)
    • Standing for long periods of time and frequent use of stairs.
    • Ability to communicate effectively & efficiently via text, email, & chat formats.
    • Communication, collaboration, time management & organization skills.
    • Positive attitude & willingness to creatively problem solve.
  • Desired Skills include basic operation of lighting, sound, & projection equipment, including Qlab playback. Know Theatre Production Staff will assist in learning these skills, as needed.
