School-Based Teaching Artists: Music/Arts Integration & Theater/Arts Enrichment

Position Overview
Kennedy Heights Arts Center is seeking two engaging and experienced teaching artists to provide arts programming at Woodford Academy, a Cincinnati Public School.

We are currently hiring for two distinct opportunities:

Music Teaching Artist – Arts Integration
We are seeking a music teaching artist who plays one or more instruments to use hands-on instrumental and vocal music activities to help students explore and strengthen their understanding of academic concepts, with a particular emphasis on math.

Theater Teaching Artist – Arts Enrichment
We are seeking a theater teaching artist to lead engaging, skill-building theater experiences for students in grades K–6. This role focuses on developing students’ creativity, confidence, collaboration, and theater skills through hands-on instruction and performance.

Candidates may apply for one or both opportunities if qualified, however selected candidates may only hold one of the two positions.

Position Details

Music Teaching Artist – Arts Integration

Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding of academic content through participatory arts activities. For this role, the teaching artist will collaborate with classroom teachers and KHAC staff to develop music-based experiences that connect to math concepts and standards.

Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with Woodford classroom teachers and the KHAC Education Director to develop and implement music-based arts integration lessons.
Use instrumental and vocal music instruction to help students explore and demonstrate understanding of math concepts, while simultaneously learning about music.
Develop engaging, age-appropriate lessons for students in grades K–6.
Adapt lessons to support different grade levels and classroom learning goals.
Communicate and coordinate effectively with classroom teachers and KHAC staff.
Participate in program feedback and evaluation.
Schedule
This position consists of 14 hours per week spread across three days.

Wednesdays: 2:00–3:00 p.m.
Teaching block: approximately 2:15–2:55 p.m.

Thursdays: 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Teaching blocks occur throughout the day for Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Fridays: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Teaching blocks occur throughout the day for kindergarten through 6th grade.

Compensation: $700 per week

Theater Teaching Artist – Arts Enrichment
The Theater Teaching Artist will provide weekly theater instruction that gives students opportunities to explore storytelling, creative expression, movement, character development, and collaboration, culminating in a performance of some kind.

Unlike the Arts Integration position, this role is focused specifically on theater arts enrichment rather than connecting to another academic subject.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate lessons that introduce students to theater skills and creative processes through hands-on activities.
Create an inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity, confidence, collaboration, and self-expression.
Adapt instruction for students across different ages, abilities, and learning needs.
Facilitate and produce a culminating student performance at the end of the semester.
Communicate and coordinate with Woodford and KHAC staff regarding programming, student needs, and showcase planning.

Schedule
Fridays, approximately 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

9:55–11:00 a.m. – Kindergarten
11:05 a.m.–12:10 p.m. – 1st/2nd Grade
12:15–1:20 p.m. – 5th/6th Grade
1:45–2:30 p.m. – Autism Classroom
2:35–3:40 p.m. – 3rd/4th Grade
Compensation: $350 per day

Qualifications
Successful candidates should have:

Professional experience in their respective art form.
Experience teaching or facilitating arts experiences with children and youth.
The ability to develop engaging, age-appropriate lessons for elementary students.
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Comfort working with students with a range of abilities, backgrounds, and learning needs.
Reliability and the ability to maintain a consistent school-based teaching schedule.
For the Music/Arts Integration position, candidates must play one or more musical instruments and should be comfortable connecting music concepts to academic learning, particularly math. Comfort level with elementary math concepts is critical.

For the Theater/Arts Enrichment position, candidates should have experience in theater performance, drama education, or a related field and be comfortable teaching theater skills to students across multiple grade levels.
