Position Overview:

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park seeks Summer Camp Instructors for our 2026 Summer Theatre Day Camp.

 

This summer we are particularly seeking instructors who can teach voice and accompany students on the piano, though candidates who do not possess these skills may also be considered. The instructor will teach a variety of classes that may include but are not limited to acting, improvisation, writing, singing, dance, stage combat (if certified) crafts, rehearsal and performance, and other specialties for one to eight weeks during our 2026 summer. Select instructors may also be asked to direct one of our Performance Academy shows. In addition to their teaching duties, Instructors will help to mentor Teaching Artist Fellows during the course of the camp day by co-teaching, observing teaching and providing feedback. Instructors may be assigned to any of our locations over the course of the summer including Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and Mason Community Center/Middle School/High School.

 

The instructor is responsible for teaching participants, implementing curriculum, directing (as assigned), mentoring teaching Artist Fellows, and collaborating with Playhouse Education Staff and other professional artists. They are responsible for following lesson plans and maintaining a positive and fun camp environment.

 

Instructors will teach from one to eight weeks, on dates which include June 1 – 26, and July 6 – 31, 2026. Camp hours are typically between 8:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m., Monday – Friday and shifts will be assigned between the hours of 8:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Shifts may change weekly within assigned hours and some Fridays may have additional hours due to performances. Instructors will typically work approximately 25-35 hours per week, not to exceed 40 hours. Selected candidates ideally will also be available for up to 20 hours of training and preparation during May 26-29, 2026.

 

This position requires travel to camp locations including Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and Mason Community Center/Middle School/High School. Qualified candidates must be flexible and able to move to a different location if needed by the camp administrative team; therefore, candidates must possess reliable transportation.

 

Position Responsibilities:

 

  • Teach any one of, but not limited to, singing/music, acting, improvisation, writing, dance, stage combat, crafts, rehearsal and performance, and other specialties at any camp location.
  • Direct for the Performance Academy, if assigned
  • Mentor, co-teach with, observe, and give feedback to Fellows, as assigned
  • Prep classrooms before and after each class
  • Proctor student lunches, as assigned
  • Trouble shoot challenges as they come up
  • Attend meetings and training sessions
  • Assist with daily set up and break down of camp equipment and supplies
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Ideal Qualifications and Requirements:

 

  • Experience in teaching singing/music, acting, improvisation, writing, dance, stage combat, crafts, rehearsal and performance, and other specialties. We are particularly looking for those who can teach singing/music along with other specialties.
  • Experience teaching children ages five to 12. Experience teaching teens a plus.
  • Energetic, responsive, flexible, creative
  • Attentive to details, ability to work independently
  • College graduate, or equivalent experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Organized and able to solve problems quickly and positively

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • Position may require local travel to other worksites, therefore this employee must have reliable means of transportation
  • Housing is not available at this time.
