American Legacy Theatre (ALT) is a nonprofit organization that creates radically accessible theatre experiences designed to build empathy, advance equity, and empower community voices. Through live performances, workshops, and education programs, ALT works in classrooms, communities, homes, and workplaces to break down barriers to participation in the arts. ALT believes everyone deserves a seat at the table and a voice in the story.

ABOUT THE POSITION

ALT seeks to empower students in grades preK-12 through the art of theatre. We are hiring a pool of professional teaching artists and teaching assistants for both in-school and after school opportunities for the 2026-2027 school year. With ALT’s sample lessons and program outline as resources, Teaching Artists will develop their own lesson plans and will teach or co-teach up to 20 students at once. Teaching Assistants will assist with classroom management and the implementation of lessons. Teaching Artists and Teaching Assistants will report to the Arts Impact Program Director.

DETAILS

If successful, applicants will be added to ALT’s teaching artist/teaching assistant pool. Opportunities based on availability.
Pay rates:
Teaching Artist rate: $40/hr
Teaching Assistant rate: $25/hr

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL APPLICANTS

Creation of a positive and respectful atmosphere for all students
Flexibility and willingness to meet students where they are
Excellent communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHING ARTISTS

Experience working with kids, ideally teaching in a classroom setting
Experience and/or current practice in theatre/performing arts
Creation and implementation of lesson plans
