On September 22, the ArtsWave team participated in the Cincy Reads!TM challenge, an initiative started by Learning Through Art to encourage literacy in the Cincinnati region. LTA is in its 25th year of operation, and Kathy Wade, CEO and co-founder, "wanted to do something different, something bold, something that involves the whole community and that is Cincy Reads!TM Weekend.”
Earlier in the week, ArtsWave staff participated in a video mashup, joining other LTA donors and partners in reading—and recording—Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees. Click here to see the video.
The next step was story time in the office. Several staff members at ArtsWave used lunchtime to enjoy a dramatic reading of Giraffes Can't Dance from Ryan Strand, Manager of Campaign Operations and Events. All involved agreed it was the perfect mealtime entertainment.
The following day, LTA hosted an afternoon of family fun, snacks and entertainment celebrating the joy of reading in Ziegler Park, and on Sunday, social media followers were invited to participate in a scavenger hunt throughout the city.
Learning Through Art provides quality arts programs in support of education, literacy, community development and engagement while encouraging multicultural awareness and understanding. ArtsWave is proud to help fund projects like Cincy Reads!TM that help fulfill the goals of our Blueprint for Collective Action for the Arts Sector by fueling creativity and learning.
